Professor Henrik Bjørnebye appointed new BAHR partner

We are delighted to announce that Professor Henrik Bjørnebye – one of Norway’s foremost energy law experts – is being appointed new BAHR partner. He is joining the firm’s renewable energy market group.

The energy industry has been a key pillar of BAHR’s practice ever since the firm was founded in 1966. Renewable energy has always been an important priority for BAHR, and we have in the last few years advised on major wind power, hydropower and new energy solution projects. With an increasing focus on the green shift, BAHR stands ready to help industry players and government bodies bring their ambitions to fruition. We are therefore now further strengthening our energy team by bringing onboard one of Norway’s leading experts.

Henrik Bjørnebye is joining us from a professorship at the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law, Faculty of Law, University of Oslo, where he heads its Department of Energy and Resources Law. In addition to his University of Oslo professorship, he is a Research Professor at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute. Professor Bjørnebye has extensive experience with advising the petroleum and energy sector, and has also previously practised law in a private law firm.

Professor Bjørnebye is much sought after as a lecturer on the national and international conference circuit and has published a large number of energy law papers. He also holds an energy, petroleum and offshore law editorship. With a genuine commitment to energy law, Professor Bjørnebye has held a number of energy-related appointments, including chair of the Norwegian Energy Law Association, member of the Norwegian Energy Board of Appeal and member of the Programme Committee of the Norwegian Hydropower Law Forum.

Professor Bjørnebye completed his law degree at the University of Oslo in 2000 and earned his PhD from the same institution nine years later.

  • As the energy industry is becoming ever more diversified and complex, and accounts for a significant portion of value added in the economy, the industry’s advisors need cutting-edge expertise – legally and strategically. We are therefore absolutely delighted to welcome Henrik Bjørnebye as our new BAHR colleague. Henrik has unique expertise that will complement our strong energy team, says Jon Christian Thaulow, partner and head of BAHR’s renewable energy market group. – Henrik’s special expertise on EU energy market regulation will be increasingly valuable to Norwegian industry players, emphasises Mr Thaulow.
  • After many rewarding years in academia, I am very excited about my return to private law practice, says Henrik Bjørnebye. – The energy industry is facing some truly important years, when relevant legal advice will be of very considerable value. I have been watching BAHR’s energy practice for a number of years and I am thrilled to now be joining their team of first-rate legal practitioners in providing leading energy industry players with top-of-the-range legal advice, says Professor Bjørnebye.
