One client remarks: "Legal and strategic understanding, coupled with commercial acumen. Best team in Norway."
BAHR – restructuring skills for tough times
Our clients tell us that they appreciate our advice in challenging situations, helping them to preserve value, rebuild balance sheets, re-establish liquidity and avoid public administration or bankruptcy procedures.
However, a commercial attitude isn’t enough. Norwegian legislation is not ideal for securing complex debt settlements, so gamesmanship based on strong legal skills, a creative approach, excellent negotiating capabilities and deep experience of alternative procedures, is also necessary. It is this talent that has seen us involved in some of the largest, most complex restructurings of recent years, such as:
- Advising Norwegian Air Shuttle in their US$5.2 billion restructuring of aircraft financing, leasing obligations, bonds, vendors and hedges.
- Advising 44 senior secured lenders holding US$8.2 billion in secured debt, on the Seadrill restructuring, the largest company chapter 11 filing of 2017.
- Assisting holders of US Senior Secured Notes issued by Norske Skog in connection with its complex restructuring, involving around US$1 billion in debt.
BAHR’s team focuses on advising companies, financial institutions, bondholders, trustees and other clients in major restructuring exercises. We have extensive experience from insolvency and enforcement processes in Norway, the US, UK, Singapore and many other jurisdictions, also working closely with our dispute resolution group when cases turn contentious. When advising a multijurisdictional restructuring issue we work closely with the most well-reputed firms in other jurisdictions.
