Intellectual Property Rights | Proposal for a Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market

On 12 September 2018, the European Parliament adopted an amended proposal for a directive on copyright in the digital single market. The much discussed Article 11, on the digital use of press publications, and Article 13, on the use of protected content by online content sharing service provides, were endorsed in a revised form.

Now that the European Parliament has adopted the proposal, the discussions can start between the Commission, the European Parliament and the Council on a final legislative proposal.

The final legislative proposal is planned to return for a vote in the European Parliament in January 2019. Thereafter, the process for implementation in the EEA Agreement will start.
